Flyfishing
You can fish in the Soča, Nadiža, Tolminka, Bača, Kneža, Koritnica, Idrijca and Trebuščica Rivers. All rivers in the Soča River basin are clean and surrounded by the natural scenery of the Julian Alps or forests. Each is a paradise for fly fishing explorations.

The most known and sought after salmonid is the Marble Trout or Salmo trutta marmoratus. The biggest ever caught was 121 cm long and weighed 25 kg.

Fish species found in the area: Salmo trutta marmoratus, Thymallus thymallus, Salmo trutta fario, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Leuciscus cephalus cabeda, Barbus plebejus,Tinca tinca, Rutilus rubilio aula, Scardinius erythrophthalmus erythrophthalmus.
How do you recognise a Marble Trout? It has a long, cylindrical, laterally slightly compressed body, with a large head that takes up a quarter of its total body length. Its basic colour is olive brown and olive green. It is characterised by marbled skin. Its tail fin is lightly cut. Its dorsal fin is darkly spotted and the others are single-coloured, greyish olive green or olive brown. It has numerous teeth on its upper and lower jaws.
Where can you fish (Catch & Release areas)
Soča River: from Kamno bridge to Volarje bridge
Idrijca River: from the Bridge in Idrija pri Bača to the junction with the Bača River
Bača River (lower): from the dam in Klavže to its mouth in Idrijca
Tolminka River: From its source to the mouth of the Soča River (except in the Tolmin Gorges, where fishing is not permitted)

Methods of fishing that are permitted:
Fly fishing with all kinds of lines and leaders. Only one fly, nymph or streamer may be attached to the hook. Hooks with barbs are not permitted anywhere. Around the dam, you may hunt from a boat. Steel leaders have a butt on one end and a tippet on the other.
Sizes and fishing periods: Marble trout (60 cm; 1. 4 - 30. 9.); other trout (26 cm; same); Rainbow trout (24 cm; same); Grayling (45 cm; 16. 5. - 31. 10.); Catch & Release areas - no collection (1. 4. - 31. 10.)
