Hello,
I would like to express my gratitude to the waitress with the red hair, that not only served us perfectly last week - but also helped us to get time table for the car train from Most na Soci. Thanks to her we got to lake bled in time and had a wonderful day before the rain started to pour down. Without the waitress, we would have missed that day! Please tell her that we are very very thankful!

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and enjoy the welcome I get from Alesh and Tania, the owners, and their family. Theyt couldnt be more helpful oprganising thin gs for me when I go there to fish the lovely Slovenian rivers.

The Hotel Hvala has always been wonderfully welcoming and has always had good food, but that has improved even further recently. It is family-run and that shows in the very friendly welcome. For walkers and fishermen, the location is superb and the countryside is some of the most wonderful in Central Europe. The river Soca has great fishing and the hotel can arrange licences and guides. If you want, bikes can also be hired.
The rooms are neat and tidy, but lack air conditioning and selectively need some redecoration, but this is a minor point and the owner told me that refurbishment was imminent. The really important thing is that the staff will go out of their way to be helpful at all times. I have read some critical reviews, but the reviews are either wrong or out of date because they do not accord with my very favourable impressions. I have stayed there several times over the years and would not have gone back if I hadn't thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The Hvala is noted as an exceptional hotel and restaurant in many guides. This is not an exaggeration. The hotel food, particularl;y the seafood, is of the highest quality with superb presentation and attention to detail. Nice local wines. Relaxed environment with top line service. The host was accomplished and highly knowlegable in his recommendations. Take his advice--it will be rewarded. Rooms are small, modern, clean. Kobarid is a wonderful small village located in the scenic Soca River Valley with mountain backdrop. Great focal point for sightseeing, fishing, hiking, gliding.

The Hotel Hvala in Kobarid is one of the best, no the best Hotel in Soca valley. Food, especially seafood is amazing and service exemplary! Alex, the oner of the hotel is a host how you can only expect it in a higher star hotel and his suggestions about food and wine are top class. Rooms are nice and confortable. All premises are clean and convinient! There is even a loker-room for flyfishermen!
Hi Hvala, it is only fair to say that we had the most amazing seafood dinner after fly fishing on beautiful Soca river, it was quite amazing discovery to have such a great seafood in the heart of Julien Alps...well done. The rooms were nice and comfortable, despite we did not go for the offered deluxe sweet.
I hope I to return to the area in future.

We stayed in hotel Hvala few weeks ago and It was great. Quality service from the staff, and amazing restaurant. Located in the heart of historical town of Kobarid, made our vacation memorable.
Wow! We had read that the Topli Val restaurant was good, but were bowled over by the food, wine and above all the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The hotel and restaurant are very much family-run businesses and the welcome and homeliness provided to us by all of the family members was outstanding and really enhanced our 3-day stay with them.

We arrived before midday from an early flight, but this was no problem for the hotel. Indeed this was where the quality of the restaurant came into its own. Whilst the family checked on the readiness of the room, they took care of our bags and we went out on to the delightful terrace and enjoyed a really appetizing light lunch. Although most guests were eating full lunches, there was absolutely no problem in our ordering just a cheese course and glasses of red wine. A beautiful cheese and fruit platter arrived and the quality of the house wine was super.
Refreshed by this, we were shown to our room. Previous reviews have commented negatively on aspects of the rooms. However, we were pleased to have been allocated - as requested - a quiet room at the back of the hotel with a nice little balcony overlooking a garden. The room was perfectly fine, reasonable in size with modern furnishings, clean and quiet. I suppose the shower room could have been larger, but it was more than adequate for us.
The star attraction is without doubt the restaurant, which is presided over by very warm and gracious members of the family. The breakfasts are very good indeed with a wide array of fresh fruits, cheeses, meats, cereals, home-made preserves, breads etc. We had opted for the demi-pension arrangement, which was incredible value and included some really stunning soup, main and dessert courses. But we opted to go a la carte on our last evening (the hotel kindly deducted the demi-pension rate from our a la carte bill), and were absolutely thrilled with the food we chose. It included the freshest and best prepared turbut we have ever eaten and a superb chef's assiette of desserts to finish.
All in all we had a wonderful experience at the Hvala, which we cannot wait to repeat. Kobarid is a fascinating town full of WW1 history, many outdoor pursuits, and provides an excellent base from which to explore this fascinating but less touristy part of beautiful Slovenia.

Travelled around Slovenia with my boyfriend in Sept 2007 and we loved this hotel. It is family run with extra staff - everyone is friendly and helpful. Check in was smooth and we were shown to our fairly plain room...with huge bed!! Room was clean but otherwise nothing special. My 4 * rating is mainly due to the wonderful town of Kobarid, the friendly family and the excellent food.
The restaurant in the Hvala Hotel is fantastic. Breakfast (included in price) was lovely with a wide range of food. Tables were decorated with fresh flowers. We had fresh fish every day for dinner. It's not cheap but it's very good. They have nice wine too. The place is full of locals and Italians hopping over the border to put on bibs and attack the seafood platters which are a specialty.
Whilst in Kobarid we used X Point to book parascending and rafting on the Soca trips - both of which were excellent. Friendly, fun staff and good equipment. We also walked to Napolean Bridge and up to Kozjak Waterfall which was beautiful.

weve been to the hvala 3 times while my husband was stationed in vicenza italy.we only lived 2 hours from the border of slo,so we quickly became regulars.interested at first with the ww1 museum, just a stones throw from the hotel, there was so much of this beautiful little town to see, that we hardly had time to do it all.the mountain drives+trails are some of the most beautiful iv'e ever seen.the hotel staff bent over backwards to be more courteous+friendly than any other place weve ever been too.the townspeople were wonderful and genuine and treated us like family.it was a difficult place to leave.i would go back there in a heartbeat.gorgeous, gorgeous town and fabulous hotel!

Four of us spent 2 days and nights in Kobarid at the Hvala Hotel. I can't say enough good things about the hotel, the service, the view, and the most wonderful breakfast table I have ever seen in a hotel. They offered mouth-watering pastries and strudel, fresh fruit, meat, cheese, scrambled eggs with ham, muesli and granola, fresh breads - we were absolutely amazed! We also ate at their restaurant and the food and service was first class! I can see why Italians cross the border to eat there.
The staff was cheerful, attentive and helpful, and the rooms were delightful. Our little balcony overlooked the charming main street of Kobarid. If you go there, be sure to take the historic walk, especially to the Slap Kozjak (waterfall). The water in the Soca River is the most incredible green blue color. You can get the map at the hotel.
